If you’re interested in eyewear, you’ve probably heard the world “pantos” at some point (the ubiquitous Dior So Real have a pantos shape). They are the iconic glasses that all men wore during the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s. We’ve been doing some research and the truth is that we’ve found many different stories about their origin. There are those who claim that they were “invented” by the US Army; others say that England’s National Health Service was responsible for their popularization, as it prescribed glasses with that shape. We honestly don’t have a clue about their real inception, but what we do know is that “pantos” comes from “pantoscopic”, a word that means “showing a wide-angled view”, according to the Collins Dictionary. Original pantos frames had a round/oval shape and featured a high hinge. Their lines have evolved significantly during the few last decades, but nowadays we can find many models whose design seems to be inspired by pantos glasses. These new models transmit a vintage flair along with an intellectual attitude that perfectly suits both hipsters and classic gentlemen. They are also perfect for modern girls looking for a certain kind of nerdy-chic outfit. What about you? Are you a pantos kind of fashionista? © Eyespectacle.com DITA BELIEVER COLOR: TAN-12K GOLD W/ DARK BROWN-GOLD FLASH-AR (23008-B-TAN-GLD-52) ITALIA INDEPENDENT I-METAL 0201 THIN COLOR: 096 EMPORIO ARMANI 2026 MODERN (AR) COLOR: BLACK/SILVER (306187) DIOR ENTRACTE 1 COLOR: SPOTTBLUE (GREY SF) (38C (HD)) DIOR HOMME BLACKTIE 170S CUT COLOR: CRYS BLCK (GREY SP SILVER) (MNG (SS)) TOM FORD FT0383 COLOR: HAVANA, OTHER, GRADIENT SMOKE (56B) FENDI 0090/S FASHION GALASSIA COLOR: PLDBK PLD (GREY GREEN) (D41 (85)) LINDA FARROW 292 COLOR: MILKY PINK ACETATE W/ ROSE GOLD LENS (C10) LAVETA TERRAL EBONY COLOR: EBONY WOOD 18K GOLD EDITION BROWN GRADIENT LENS (LVT073 )
